Joana Trincão Marques helps clients manage tax exposure and defend their interests across Portugal’s legal and administrative systems.
Her work is focused on navigating disputes — from inspections and audit challenges to appeals before tax courts, arbitral panels, and constitutional bodies.
She supports companies and individuals in responding to tax assessments, contesting enforcement actions, and building clear, well-reasoned arguments that hold up under scrutiny. Joana also helps clients evaluate the tax implications of incentive plans, restructuring decisions, and strategic operations — ensuring that legal positions are not only defensible, but aligned with broader business goals.
Her advice is shaped by years of hands-on litigation across multiple venues, giving her a granular understanding of how tax law operates in practice — and what it takes to persuade different decision-makers.
She holds a law degree from the University of Lisbon (2013) and a Master’s in Tax Law from the Catholic University of Portugal (2015), and has also completed advanced postgraduate study in Banking Law at the University of Lisbon (2019).
Outside of work, Joana is committed to civic engagement and the promotion of legal education in tax and public law, contributing to a more transparent and accessible system for all.
